Hi! I’m Ronald.
I am proud of your decision to seek help!
I will be the first one to admit that seeking help is not easy. It can make us feel weak and useless. During our work together, I will be with you every step. My main theory of choice is Acceptance and Commitment therapy, and here is a metaphor the theory uses to explain what our time in therapy will be like,
“You know, a lot of people come to therapy believing that the therapist is some sort of enlightened being, that he's resolved all his issues, he's got it all together--but that's not the way it is. It's more like you’re climbing your mountain over there, and I'm climbing my mountain over here. And from where I am on my mountain, I can see things on your mountain that you can't see - like there's an avalanche about to happen, or there's an alternative pathway you could take, or you're not using your pickaxe effectively. But I'd hate for you to think that I've reached the top of my mountain, and I'm sitting back, taking it easy. Fact is, I'm still climbing, still making mistakes, and still learning from them. And basically, we're all the same. We're all climbing our mountain until the day we die. But here's the thing: you can get better and better at climbing, and better and
better at learning to appreciate the journey. And that's what the work we do here is all about"
In therapy, I often utilize a variety of practices depending on your needs that include: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Gottman's Couple theory, Attachment Theory, Mindfulness, and creative writing.
I received my Master’s degree in Psychology at Azusa Pacific University. My clinical experiences include providing community mental health services to low income individuals and youth struggling with issues such as trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship and academic stress for the past 3 years. I have also worked in Substance/ Mental health rehab centers providing Group therapy. During that time, I have worked with teenagers, Young adults, Adults, and Couples with bipolar disorder, borderline disorder, substance use, attachment disorders, depression, and anxiety.
I was born in Guatemala, and emigrated to the United States at the age of 8 months old. I was raised in Los Angeles, I grew up with two different cultures and languages. I speak Spanish as a second language.
In my free time, I enjoy playing soccer, spending time with friends, and going to church!
