Hello! My name is Lawrence Nielsen,

I am a dedicated marriage and family therapist that has a passion for working with individuals, couples, and families who need some assistance navigating through the difficult challenges of life. I began my journey working with individuals experiencing trauma and stress in community mental health as well as with adolescents in a school setting. From there I navigated to work with individuals and families with acute and severe mental health concerns, such as psychosis, bipolar, and personality disorders, in a residential setting which included working with children and adolescents. After extensive experience in residential and inpatient settings, I moved over to private practice where I worked with individuals and couples who were experiencing a variety of difficulties, including gender identity; chronic illnesses, marriage concerns, relationship dysfunctions, addictions, work anxiety; and family trauma.I work both in person and telehealth, as well as engaging in family and systemic work.

In my therapeutic work, I utilize a variety of approaches and modalities including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Object Relations (Psychodynamic), Solution Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I always approach each client through a humanistic, biopsychosocial and spiritual lens. I understand that each individual has their own struggles and difficulties and that many concerns are complex and nuanced. Working with children, I also use integrative models such as art and music therapy, as well as play to gain more understanding of their experience. I am an advocate of the LGBTQIA+ population, and am dedicated to working with clients from all backgrounds, socioeconomic, and culture positions. I am committed and passionate in my approach to therapy and always meet clients where they are at, and try to be a supportive and empathetic professional in their life journey.
