Tinisha Spencer

My name is Tinisha and I just said “Hi” in Navajo. I am Native American and my tribe is Navajo. Growing up on the reservation was not easy. Despite my own hardships, I use my resilience to help others who also experience their own trauma and/or issues that occur throughout their life. I graduated with my Master's in Social Work from Arizona State University because I have a passion for working with people who are in need or may just need someone to talk to.

Before getting my degree, I donated countless hours of volunteer work with non-profit organizations. I worked as a caretaker for the elderly and for a special needs person with multiple disabilities. I also mentored/tutored children. Professionally, I have experience interning at a substance use residential treatment center with adults to interning at a psychiatric hospital with adolescents/adults to working in an outpatient partial hospitalization program with adults struggling with mental health issues. My experiences continue to allow me to be creative, innovative, to become self-aware and open-minded so I can collaborate and communicate effectively with a diversity of individuals.

My therapeutic style is warm, non-judgmental, full of empathy, and compassion. I have experience doing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution-focused therapy and Motivational Interviewing. I have worked with people struggling with anxiety, depression, substance/alcohol use, schizophrenia, psychosis, bipolar disorder and suicide ideation to name a few. Regardless of your diagnosis, I want to learn more about you as a person and hopefully along the way, I can plant seeds of healing.
