Cheryl Swanson LCSW

Hi, I'm Cheryl.

I'm so glad you are reaching out. You can’t change what’s happened in the past, but you can change the future. My goal is to work together with you and/or your child to better understand and resolve issues causing distress. We will use a combination of psychodynamic and cognitive-based therapy interventions to look at behavior patterns and negative perceptions that are impeding positive relationships and a more fulfilling life. If you’re looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging situation or you’re just ready to move in a new direction in your life, I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.

Parents, if you are struggling with a child’s difficult or disruptive behavior, you are likely feeling very frustrated and helpless. I love giving parents the tools they need to turn things around and help them enjoy their children again. Research has shown that teaching parents specific interventions is the most effective way to change a child’s behavior, as they can repeat them over and over as behaviors occur. Interventions are tailored to your specific household.

I am Christian, and I have practiced for more than 25 years in a variety of settings, including a community mental health center, private Christian schools, adolescent treatment centers, and in private practice. My Bachelor’s Degree was obtained at Loyola University of Chicago and my Master’s Degree is from Jane Addams College of Social Work at the University of Illinois. Outside of work, I enjoy painting, walking, travel, and playing with my cat.
